Raising the Bar

I came across a recent article in Virgin Blue Magazine - Voyeur that I found interesting. Thought I would share it with you.

With changes to liquor licensing laws, there's a small bar scene brewing in more Australian cities than ever. Meet the entrepreneurs with big ideas for small establishment.

When it comes to Aussie drinking holes, small is the new big. Recent changes to liquor licensing laws in New South Wales and Queensland have seen a flurry of bespoke bars open in Sydney and Brisbane, following in the footsteps of Melbourne, which is long famed for its vibrant laneway culture, restaurants and 200-plus boutique bars.

In Sydney, 34 new bars have opened in the change in the legislation in 2008, with another 10 expected to be trading by the end of 2011. In Queensland, a small bars license was introduced in January 2009, with seven venues now open in Brisbane.

The article then goes on to profile the owners of three small bars in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
